NOJHL names its Players of the Month for February

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday its respective player, defenceman, goaltender and rookie of the month for February, which includes the final three games of the regular season, played on March 1.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH – CALEB SERRE, (F) BLIND RIVER BEAVERS: Wrapping up the regular season in style, Serre racked up 20 points during the time period by notching five tallies and handing out 15 assists along the way to convincingly win the NOJHL’s scoring title, finishing 35 points clear of his nearest rival.

Among his contributions during the month was collecting his league-leading 10th game-winning goal while assisting on three other difference makers.

Through the 55 outings the 20-year-old played during the campaign, the Blind River captain picked up at least one point in 48 of them for his hometown side and also produced 31 multi-point affairs, featuring nine with four or more.

In 210 regular season contests in his NOJHL career, Serre amassed 269 points on 117 goals and 152 assists.

DEFENCEMAN OF THE MONTH – JACOB PETERSON-GALEMA, (D) POWASSAN VOODOOS: February saw the Voodoos blueliner have points in nine of his club’s contests while also bolstering Powassan’s back-end.

The 18-year-old Peterson-Galema, who hails from nearby North Bay, saw him score twice, including netting a game-winner, and dish out eight helpers during the month.

He wrapped up the regular season by establishing personal single-season bests in games played (56); goals (7); assists (29) and points (36).

GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH – OWEN SAY, (G) POWASSAN VOODOOS: Making eight starts during the time frame, Say won each of them going 8-0 while helping backstop the Voodoos to first place overall in the NOJHL standings.

Along with the eight victories, the 18-year-old London, Ont., product posted a 1.74 goals-against average and recorded a solid .951 save percentage.

Say’s efforts throughout the campaign saw him pace all league netminders in wins, with 31, while also finishing tops with a save mark of .941 and third overall in average at 1.90.

ROOKIE OF THE MONTH – MITCHELL MARTIN, (F) RAYSIDE-BALFOUR CANADIANS: An impressive final month of the campaign saw the 17-year-old from Sudbury amass 16 points in 10 outings for the Canadians, helping them go 8-1-0-1 and secure the NOJHL’s West Division title.

In all, Martin scored seven times, including collecting a game-winner, and doled out nine assists along the way.

He wrapped up the regular season tied with the league scoring lead among rookies with teammate Nicholas DeGrazia as the duo both had 61 points. Martin also led all first-year skaters in assists with 36.
