NOJHL names its Players of the Month for October

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Tuesday that Billy Biedermann (Greater Sudbury Cubs); Kenyon Nyman (Timmins Rock); Noah Beaulne (Greater Sudbury Cubs) and Jackson Truchan (Soo Thunderbirds) have been named its Forward; Defenceman; Goaltender and Rookie of the Month, respectively, for October.

FORWARD OF THE MONTH: BILLY BIEDERMANN, (F) GREATER SUDBURY CUBS – In 10 outings for the league-leading Cubs, Biedermann piled up 15 points on seven goals, including one game-winner, and dished out eight assists.

The offensive contributions for 17-year-old Little Current, Ont., product aided in Greater Sudbury going 9-0-1-0 during the time frame.

Biedermann enters league play this week with a team-best 25 points, which also ties him for fourth overall among all NOJHL skaters.

With points in all but four of the Cubs’ 18 games so far this season, Greater Sudbury boasts a record of 12-1-1-0 when he has etched his name on the game sheet at least once, with a tally or helper.

DEFENCEMAN OF THE MONTH: KENYON NYMAN, (D) TIMMINS ROCK – Earning back-to-back laurels as the league’s top blueliner of the month, the 20-year-old from Maple Ridge, B.C., had another strong showing at both ends of the ice for the Rock.

In 11 appearances for Timmins in October, Nyman piled up 17 points as he scored four times and helped set-up 13 others along the way.

His efforts saw him register points in 43% of the goals the Rock recorded for the month, with his defensive efforts helping the Rock only allow just over two markers against per game in the same period.

Nyman currently tops all NOJHL defencemen in goals (7), assists (20) and points (27), which also places him third in league scoring.

GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH: NOAH BEAULNE, (G) GREATER SUDBURY CUBS – Making six appearances in October, Beaulne came away victorious in each of them, helping the Cubs move into top spot in the overall NOJHL standings.

With his efforts, the 18-year-old, who hails from Hanmer, Ont., produced a 1.71 goals-against average along with a save percentage of .939.

He also chipped in with three assists as well, raising his league-leading total among netminders so far this season to four.

Currently leading all rookie goalkeepers in GAA (1.92) and wins (8), Beaulne sits second in the entire NOJHL in average as well as tied for fifth-best, with a save mark of .928.

ROOKIE OF THE MONTH: JACKSON TRUCHAN, (F) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – Skating in a dozen contests for the Thunderbirds last month, Truchan led all NOJHL players with nine goals and chipped in with seven assists, with his 16 points being the third-highest total among league players.

Two of the markers for the Farmington Hills, Mich., native were game-winners while a couple of his helpers ended up being deciding markers as well.

Truchan also collected at least one point in 10 of the 12 match-ups Sault Ste. Marie had, including seven straight to start October.

The speedy forward enters November pacing all first-year skaters in the NOJHL in goals with nine. He is also knotted for second in points among new players with 16.
