SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday that forwards Jayden Rothmeyer (Soo Eagles) and Matteo Paradiso (Timmins Rock), along with goaltender Asher Ammann (Kirkland Lake Gold Miners), have been named its Rogers 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending October 4.
Jayden Rothmeyer, (F) Soo Eagles: The 18-year-old alumnus of the Chicago Phantoms U18 AAA side, helped the Eagles collect a trio of victories last week and extend an overall winning streak to five straight outings.
Hailing from Elmhurst, Illinois, Rothmeyer had points in all three contests with a pair of tallies and three assists to run a consecutive game point streak to five.
His seven points in six contests places him third on the Michigan Soo in offensive production and his him sitting seventh in NOJHL rookie scoring.
Matteo Paradiso, (F) Timmins Rock: In a pair of Rock wins over the weekend, Paradiso had points in both helping Timmins improve to 6-0-0-1 overall and lead the league in winning percentage at .929.
The 19-year-old from Vancouver, B.C., scored in a home result versus Espanola Friday, then dished out a pair of assists, including one on the game-winner, in a narrow decision at rival Hearst Saturday.
Now in his second season with Timmins, after arriving from the North Shore Warriors Prep program in British Columbia, Paradiso has averaged over a point-per-game for the Rock since his arrival with 44 in 38 matchups.
Asher Ammann, (G) Kirkland Lake Gold Miners: A stellar start saw Ammann come up big when needed as Kirkland Lake handed Powassan their initial defeat of the season, with a shootout victory.
The 18-year-old rookie netminder from Edmonton, Alta., made 44 saves in 65 minutes in regulation and overtime, plus handled all three shootout attempts fired his way in the road result.
Joining the Gold Miners via the Lloydminster Lancers U18 AAA system in Alberta, Ammann currently tops all first-year goaltenders in goals-against average at 1.89 while his .948 save percentage is second among rookies. He’s also tops in wins with three, among newcomers, in as many appearances.
