POWASSAN, Ont. – A solid all-around home ice effort saw the Powassan Voodoos collect goals from seven different skaters as they went on to sink the Iroquois Falls Storm 7-2 Saturday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest at the Powassan Sportsplex.

It was the visiting Storm who scored first as Jason Cyr clicked midway through the opening frame as he outraced a defender to the net and snapped a shot past Voodoos’ goaltender Matthew Lyon.

Powassan countered with a pair of markers in the back-half of the session to take a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.

Gavin Pich tied at 12:49 with a short side sizzler through a screen from the top of the left circle.

Then going to work on the power play, Anthony Boyes pumped in a rebound from the right of Iroquois Falls netminder Keenan Connely.

The goals kept coming in the middle frame as four more were banged in before the period was half way through.

Niko Lessard drew the Storm even as he found himself free between the circles and snapped in his third of the season.

Countering quickly, Devran Brown put the hosts back on top by taking a pass off a turnover generated by Caleb Dawson and buried it from the left circle, with a wrister into the left corner.

Owen Smith then made it 4-2 Voodoos when he outmuscled a defender to the net and shovelled in a backhand.

Continuing to press, Braeden Begley on a man advantage took his time up top before gliding in and whipping in his first of the season.

Aidan Duchesne added to the outburst at 13:28 as he was spotted by Dawson driving down the middle of the ice and took the feed before neatly tucking in his chance with some crafty stickhandling in close.

In the third, Powassan went up by five thanks to Jacob Grahn forcing a giveaway that led to him depositing a backhand while the teams were skating four aside to round out the scoring.

With the result, the Voodoos improve to 6-2-1-1 overall while the Storm drop to 5-5-1-0.
