FRENCH RIVER – Evan Katic notched a pair of tallies, featuring the game-winner, while Declan McNamara posted a shutout in his Timmins Rock debut as part of a 6-0 victory over the French River Rapids in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League get together Saturday at Noelville Arena.
Following a scoreless opening 20 minutes, the Rock broke the deadlock early in the second period when Katic collected a loose puck in the left circle before turning in a firing a shot past the glove of Rapids’ netminder Calvin Gardner.
Timmins then added two more before the expiration of the second period to take a 3-0 cushion into the intermission.
Sutton Scheck’s first NOJHL goal saw him have a deflected puck find him alone in front where he lifted his chance by Gardner.
The Rock’s Katic then notched another to reach the 10-goal plateau on the campaign.
Third period play saw Rock Oosterveld extend the lead for the visitors as he redirected a play put in front at 2:23.
Putting it out of reach, Timmins tacked on two more moments apart to go up by six as Simon Toupin and Nolan Chabot both connected from the left of the net.
That also saw a goaltending change for French River as William Popik entered in relief.
There was no further scoring on the night as McNamara posted his NOJHL-leading second shutout of the season in the triumph.
