FRENCH RIVER – A Ty Chambers power play tally with under two minutes remaining in regulation was the difference as the French River Rapids handed the Timmins Rock a narrow 2-1 defeat in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter Sunday at Noelville Arena.
Timmins picked up the lone marker of the opening 20 minutes with Aidan Milne notching his first NOJHL goal at 12:23 of the frame.
French River came back to even the score seven and a half minutes into middle session when Reid Manning picked up his second of the campaign.
Heading deep into the waning moments of regulation, the Rapids went to the man advantage where Chambers capitalized with the game-winner with help from Ryan Smith and Will Frustaglio to hand the Rock their first loss in normal time since back on September 25.
Rapids goalkeeper Chase Johnson was strong throughout, making 42 saves to record his opening NOJHL win while Vance Meyer faced 32 attempts in defeat as he suffered his first NOJHL loss after posting six consecutive victories.
