Rayside-Balfour rallies late to shock Iroquois Falls

IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – The Rayside-Balfour Canadians stormed back from a three-goal third period deficit to score four unanswered markers and shock the Iroquois Falls Eskis 4-3 Saturday night in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at Jus Jordan Arena.

It looked good early for the hometown Eskis as they skated out to a 2-0 lead after the opening stanza on efforts supplied by Alex Mitsionis and Shadow Reuben.

Iroquois Falls added another in the middle session to go up by three heading into the third when Reuben notched his second of the night and team-leading fifth of the season at 1:41.

Rayside-Balfour started their comeback early into the third thanks to Tristan Simm’s first 70 seconds into the period.

Simm then added another at 13:04 to pull the visitors to within two.

The Canadians kept coming and picked up the equalizer with 3:33 left in regulation when Cayse Ton buried a Brett Whitehead feed.

Newcomer Evan Krassey then capped off the third period rally with his first NOJHL goal, which was the game-winner, with 2:08 to go to round out the scoring.

Whitehead and Matthew Neault had two assists each for the Canadians as did Dillan Bruce of the Eskis.

Shots on goal in the contest favoured Rayside-Balfour by a 47-34 count with MacKenzie Savard picking up the win and Artem Bortovskiy the loss.
