Rayside-Balfour’s Erickson named CJHL’s 1st star for November

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Canadian Junior Hockey League announced Tuesday that Rayside-Balfour Canadians forward Ryan Erickson has been named the CJHL’s Gongshow Gear Inc. first star of the month for November.

This marks the second time this season a player from the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League has garnered CJHL – Gongshow Gear first star monthly laurels. Hunter Atchison of the Cochrane Crunch earned the accolades for September.

This past month was an impressive one for the 20-year-old Erickson, who hails from Sudbury, as he averaged just over three points-per-game amassing a total of 28 in nine outings for the Canadians.

He scored 13 times, of which three were game-winners, and doled out 15 assists helping Rayside-Balfour go 8-1 in the time frame.

His month also saw him register points in eight of nine games played with seven of those match-ups being multi-point affairs.

Currently riding a seven-game point streak, Erickson now sits in second spot in the NOJHL scoring race with 53 points on 20 goals and 33 assists in 24 contests.  His four game-winning tallies also tie him for fourth overall in the league in that department.

His efforts also earned him NOJHL – Gongshow Gear player of the month honours for November.

Forwards Thomas Stavert of the Summerside Western Capitals (MHL) and Joel Caron of the Sainte-Agathe Montagnards (QJHL) were tabbed the CJHL’s second and third stars of the month respectively.

Stavert supplied 23 points on a dozen markers and 11 helpers in 10 outings while Caron found the back of the net eight times and set-up 17 others for 25 points in 10 contests.
