Rock earn split vs. Crunch in Iroquois Falls
IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – A Linden Spencer power play goal 7:17 into the third period proved to be the game-winner as the Timmins Rock edged the Cochrane Crunch 4-3 Sunday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League preseason play at Jus Jordan Arena in Iroquois Falls.
Timmins opened the scoring in the neutral site affair 13:55 into the first period off a nice move from Spencer coming off the near boards and beating Crunch starter Kyle Henderson.
The Rock notched another before the frame was complete compliments of a Wayne Mathieu effort at 19:28.
Cochrane’s Kyle Podwika struck twice quickly less than a minute apart near the seven-minute mark of the middle session to knot the affair at 2-2.
Timmins regained their late in the period as Grant McClellan picked up his first of the preseason to put the Rock back on top during a man advantage opportunity.
Up a skater in the final stanza, Spencer collected his second goal of the contest converting on the power play to put Timmins up 4-2 with 12:43 to go.
The Crunch pulled back to within one as Pokwicka finished off a hat trick with 63 seconds left in regulation, but that’s as close as they would get as the Rock held on for the victory.
Alex Brisson dished out a pair of assists in the loss for Cochrane.
