Rock run winning streak to 8 in upending Wildcats

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – A six-goal barrage by the Timmins Rock in the third period sent them on their way to their eighth consecutive victory, an 8-2 triumph over the Elliot Lake Wildcats in Day 2 action at Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League Showcase at Big Bear Arena.

Elliot Lake came out fast and notched the game’s opening tally on the first shift as Eric Vanderhoof bagged his team-leading eighth of the season.

Timmins countered that by pumping 18 shots on Wildcats netminder Dominic Boily and were rewarded with markers from Josh Dickson and Brendan Boyce to put them up 2-1 after 20 minutes.

Neither side would convert offensively in the middle stanza thanks in part to 21 saves by Wildcats netminder Dominic Boily.

The floodgates would open in the final frame though as the relentless pressure by the Rock saw them blow it open.

Two of those tallies came before the period was a minute old on markers from Tyler Schwindt and Josh Anderson.

Zach Smith at even strength made it 5-1 before Vanderhoof picked one up while Elliot Lake Wildcats were shorthanded at 3:59 for his second of the day.

However, Timmins kept coming and tacked on three more markers to secure the decision with David Laroche, Dickson and Stewart Parnell all finding the back of the net to conclude goal count.

The Rock held a big edge in shots with Tyler Masternak picking up the win while Boily was busy in defeat.
