TIMMINS, Ont. – A Lucas Peever top shelf tally, 1:46 into overtime, lifted the Iroquois Falls Storm to a dramatic 4-3 comeback victory over the Timmins Rock Sunday afternoon in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at McIntyre Arena.
Pressing the pace early on, it took Timmins just over 12 minutes to eventually solve Iroquois Falls starter Justin Sullivan.
On the Rock’s initial marker, affiliate forward Edan Etheridge was part of a rush out of his own zone where he took a pass from Alexis Tremblay and while driving down the left wing fired in his initial NOJHL goal.
The home side then tacked on another 11 seconds later thanks to a Jack Kelly slamming in a Reece Liu feed for his team-leading 23rd of the season.
On the power play to commence the middle stanza, the Storm got on the board off a Tibor Nemeth point blast that got by Rock netminder Dryden Riley.
Getting that back with a man advantage effort of their own, Etheridge put Timmins back up by two at 3:44 as he pumped in a rebound off a Brant Romaniuk shot from the right circle.
The assist for Romaniuk sees him run a consecutive game point streak to 12 straight outings.
Still 3-1 Rock into third period, special teams brought the Storm right back as they tallied twice on the power play to knot the affair at 3-3.
After Jordan Mayo slammed in a Lucas Peever pass from the left of Riley, Jack Jarvis worked a give-and-go with Landon Trethewey and neatly picked the bottom left corner to help send it to extra time.
In OT, Iroquois Falls completed the comeback when after falling, Cho collected a loose puck in the corner, came out and fired a feed over to Peever, who ripped it into the top corner for the game-winner and give them the additional point on the day.
Next for both clubs sees Timmins visit Blind River Thursday while the Storm host the Espanola Paper Kings Saturday in what is a key contest for each side in a race for a playoff spot.
