SUDBURY – The Soo Thunderbirds got a pair of goals from Eric Hillock to help lead them to a 6-2 victory over the Sudbury Nickel Barons Wednesday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League affair at McClelland Arena.

The opening period was scoreless until the latter stages of the session when Sault Ste. Marie struck twice in a span of 43 seconds to go in front by a pair.

Nicolas Tassone scored the first one for the Thunderbirds at 17:32 while Matthew Mitchell added the second on the next shift.

It took just 56 seconds into the middle stanza for the visitors to extend their cushion as Anthony notched the eventual game-winner while on the power play.

Sudbury got on the board midway through the contest as Nickel Barons captain Jacob Bonin connected while his side was down a man to make it a 3-1 game.

The T-Birds countered that with an even strength effort by Brett Jeffries and one shorthanded by Hillock to the Soo up by four entering the third.

Hillock added another for the Thunderbirds in the final frame at 9:17 while Kyle Fransen added one later for Sudbury five minutes later to round out the scoring.

Shots on goal favoured Sault Ste. Marie 36-20 with Brian Kment picking up the win and Jessie Morin the loss.

With the triumph the Thunderbirds won their fourth straight, while having gone 8-0-2-0 in their past 10, improving to 27-4-0-4 on the season.

In defeat the Nickel Barons slipped to 19-11-1-2 overall.
