Thunderbirds’ Katchouk named CJHL’s 1st Star for February
SUDBURY – The Canadian Junior Hockey League announced Tuesday that Soo Thunderbirds forward Boris Katchouk has been named its Gongshow Gear first star of the month for February.
The 16-year-old rookie forward was earlier named the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s most recent monthy award recipient.
In nine games played in February, Katchouk registered 23 points helping Sault Ste. Marie go 8-1 in the contests he skated in as the Vancouver, B.C., product tallied 10 times and set-up 13 others for the Thunderbirds in that span.
He has also registered at least one point in each of the past nine NOJHL match-ups he has suited up for.
Overall Katchouk, a second round pick, 33rd overall, of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the 2014 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection, has totalled 45 points for the T-Birds in 29 outings on 18 goals and 27 assists.
He also topped the club in point-per-game average at 1.55 during the course of the regular season.
Earning second star laurels in the 129-team CJHL was forward Dane Gibson of the BCHL’s Victoria Grizzlies.
Gibson had 23 points in 11 outings in BCHL play on 10 goals and 13 assists.
Felix Chamerland of the CCHL’s Pembroke Lumber Kings picked up CJHL third star honours with 13 markers and seven helpers in 10 games played last month.
Honourable mention for the CJHL 3 Stars went to: Brady Wiffen, Trenton Golden Hawks (OJHL), Robbie Graham, Dieppe Commandos (MHL), Devin McDonald, Camrose Kodiaks (AJHL).
