GALLERY: Timmins and Powassan skate to 3-3 double OT draw

TIMMINS, Ont. – A Tyson Gilmour goal with 3:17 left in regulation helped the Powassan Voodoos rally for a 3-3 double overtime tie with the Timmins Rock Saturday night in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action in front of 1,068 fans at McIntyre Arena.

Sporting retro Timmins Bears jerseys, when that franchise was members of the NOJHL, the home side got on the board first in this one thanks to Jordan Picard seven and a half minutes in.

Powassan drew level at 16:13 as Eric Mondoux capitalized on a man advantage opportunity for his eighth on the campaign.

The Rock matched that though with a power play marker of their own from Grant McClellan with 63 seconds left in the period then added another from Picard at 19:53, while up a man, as he notched multiple tallies for a second-straight outing.

Moving on to the middle frame, the visitors got closer seven minutes in, via the power play, thanks to Payton Vescio to make it a 3-2 game.

The Voodoos then forced overtime in the back half of the third as Gilmour provided the equalizer late to help send it to extra time.

Neither team would capitalize in each of the two five-minute OT sessions with the two clubs settling for one point apiece on the night.

Will Caston and Jace Soroko had two assists each for the Rock as did Shane Beaulieu of the Voodoos.

Shots on goal in the contest favoured Timmins 41-24 with Julian Galloway of Powassan and Eric Jackson of the Rock serving as the opposing netminders.
