TIMMINS, Ont. – A Karter Renouf marker nearly a minute and a half into the third period proved to be the game-winner as the Timmins Rock went on to edge the French River Rapids 2-1 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Sunday afternoon at McIntyre Arena.
A late power play in the first frame helped French River strike at 19:07 when Benjamin Naimool finished off a Jack Ginocchi feed.
On the man advantage to commence the middle stanza, Timmins came back to equalize as Josh Dickson put in his 11th of the year while also scoring for a third straight game.
The early effort in the third gave the Rock the lead for good thanks to Renouf as his goal proved to be the day’s final tally.
With 21 saves, Rock netminder Vance Meyer picked up the victory.
Meanwhile, Rapids starter Chase Johnson was outstanding, finishing with 58 saves in suffering the low-scoring defeat.
