Timmins tops Cochrane in exhibition action in Kapuskasing
KAPUSKASING – Tristan Salesse had a pair of goals, including the game-winner, and assisted on another as the Timmins Rock topped the Cochrane Crunch 7-4 Thursday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League preseason contest held in Kapuskasing.
The visiting Rock jumped out to 2-0 first period lead on markers by Mike Norris and Ravinder Shokar before Cochrane’s Jeran Knorr got one back for the Crunch at 18:52 of the frame.
Cochrane added to their initial effort to tie it and take the lead in the second as Seamus Maguire and Alex Goulet provided tallies.
Timmins drew even on the power play as Devin Panzeca tied it a 3-3 at 12:41 of the middle stanza.
Salesse then buried his two goals five minutes apart in the third to put the Rock in front for good.
Cochrane’s John Stevenson made it 5-4 with 4:39 left in regulation, but the visitors would finish things off with a couple of late empty netters from Andrew Castagna and Cole Gilligan to secure the decision.
Ryan Kerr had two assists for the winners while Hunter Atchison supplied a couple of helpers for Cochrane.
Mathiew Nixon and Logan Ferrington both saw action in the Timmins net in the victory while Kurtis David went the distance for the Crunch.
These same two teams will meet again Friday night as they finish off a home-and-home in Timmins with a 7:30 p.m. start at McIntyre Arena.
Also tomorrow the Espanola Express host the Blind River Beavers at 7 p.m. at the Regional Recreation Complex.
