Timmins wins 4th straight with triumph over Iroquois Falls

TIMMINS, Ont. – The Timmins Rock tallied twice in the game’s opening minute and never trailed from there as they went on to defeat the Iroquois Falls Eskis 5-2 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Wednesday at McIntyre Arena.

Timmins tipped the momentum in their favour early as Tyler Romain knocked in his ninth of the year just 11 seconds after the opening face-off.

Adding to that the Rock tacked on another a mere 25 seconds later on a Bain Cunningham effort.

The home side then chased Eskis starter Artem Bortovskiy with their third goal of the period when Brendan Campbell connected for his first NOJHL marker at 13:19.

With Trevor Hawkes coming in to take over the netminding duties for Iroquois Falls, his club got one back late in the session as team captain David Osborne notching his 10th of the season at 18:34.

After a scoreless middle stanza, Timmins got that back early in the third as Romain tallied again, this time 42 seconds into the frame to put the Rock back up by three.

Up a man, the Eskis converted on a man advantage opportunity seven minutes into the period as Dillan Bruce picked up his 11th marker overall.

The power play allowed the Rock to clinch the victory with 8:10 to go as Wayne Mathieu hit double digits with his 10th goal of the season to round out the scoring.

Jacob Shankar dished out two assists to aid the offensive cause for Timmins.

Matthew Nixon was solid between the pipes for the Rock making 37 saves helping his side with their fourth straight contest.

Bortovskiy faced just five attempts in defeat for Iroquois Falls while Hawkes handled 28 of 30 shots in a long relief stint.
