Jr. Trappers to begin training camp Monday

NORTH BAY – The North Bay Jr. Trappers will begin their first training camp at their new home in West Ferris on Monday morning.

A total of 34 players met for a brief off-ice orientation on Sunday afternoon before the team hits the ice for one-a-days this week.

The Trappers will skate from 8-10 a.m. on Monday through to Thursday at West Ferris Arena.

EXHIBITION ON THE ROAD: The Jr. Trappers will play at least five preseason games on the road before their home opener on Friday, Sept. 13 when the old Trappers franchise, which moved to Espanola in the offseason, travels to the Gateway City.

North Bay will take on the CCHL’s Pembroke Lumber Kings on Sunday, Aug. 25 for a 4 p.m. tilt again another junior franchise that went through an ownership change in the off-season.

The Trappers will also take part in the NOJHL Cottage Cup in Elliot Lake which is a 4-team preseason tournament taking place from Aug. 30 through Sept 1.

The club will play a trio of round robin games against the Blind River Beavers, the Soo Thunderbirds as well as the host Elliot Lake Bobcats.

Following that the Trappers will compete in one of the semifinal contests with the opponent to be determined after the round robin compet

The two semifinal winners will then sqaure off for the Cottage cup title at 4 p.m. on Sept. 1.

OHIO NATIVE TURNER SIGNS: The Jr. Trappers have announced the signing of 1994 birth-year forward Zach Turner.

The Columbus, Ohio product had 32 points in 45 games with the Wooster Oilers of the Minnesota Junior Hockey League last season.

“I like the city; It seems like it’s a great hockey town and the Trappers name carries a lot of tradition in this city,” said Turner.

“I will try to play a key role with this team,” added Turner.  “I’ve been a playmaker and I will do everything to get the job done and be a leader.”

TICKETS COMING SOON: The Jr. Trappers season ticket packages are expected to be available for purchase this week.
