Trappers snap Thunderbirds winning streak

NORTH BAY – A Tait Seguin tally 1:34 into the second period proved to be the game-winner as the North Bay Trappers blanked the Soo Thunderbirds 2-0 Sunday afternoon in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Memorial Gardens.

The Trappers triumph snapped a nine-game win streak by the league-leading Thunderbirds who lost for only the second time in regulation on the year slipping to 16-2-1-2 overall. North Bay improved to 14-2-2-3 with the victory.

Following a scoreless first period Seguin notched his ninth goal of the campaign as he beat Soo starter Joel Horodziejczyk early in the middle session.

Corbin Bean added the second marker 10 minutes later and North Bay netminder Dustin Hummel did the rest turning in a 38-save performance to post his first NOJHL shutout.

Horodziejczyk made 41 saves in a losing cause for the T-Birds.

League action resumes Wednesday as the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners head to Sudbury to take on the Nickel Barons in a 7:30 p.m. start at McClelland Arena.
