Voodoos edge Beavers 4-3
BLIND RIVER – A Jake Staples goal with 2:46 to go in the second period proved to be the game-winner as the Powassan Voodoos pulled out a narrow 4-3 victory over the Blind River Beavers Saturday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at the Blind River Community Centre.
The visiting Voodoos picked up the lone tally of the opening 20 minutes as Kyle Moore finished off a feed from Steve Harland at 7:22, which also quickly extended a consecutive game point streak for Harland to 22 straight contests.
Blind River battled back to draw level 4:18 into the second as Regan Yew beat Powassan starter Jack Ondrovic.
The Beavers then took the lead two and half minutes later as Chris Ordoobadi recorded his seventh NOJHL marker to make it a 2-1 game for the home side.
Harland tied it midway way through the match-up and then assisted on a Brendan D’Agostino effort to put the Voodoos back in front for good.
Staples then picked up the eventual difference maker to cap off the offensive outburst for Powassan.
Not giving up, Blind River moved to within one with 9:16 remaining thanks to Austin Lamont finding the back of the net.
Moore also had a pair of assists for the victorious side to finish with a three-point night along with Harland.
Chandler Dorbin and Dante Juris had two helpers apiece for Blind River.
Ondrovic shut the door the rest of the way however, finishing with 34 stops, as the Voodoos held on the for the decision.
Zach Mills was tested 31 times in defeat for the Beavers.
