POWASSAN, Ont. – Dayton Murray’s second goal of the game, via the power play, 14 seconds into overtime completed a Powassan Voodoos rally as they skated to a 5-4 victory over the French River Rapids in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest Monday evening at the Powassan Sportsplex.
It took the visiting Rapids just 86 seconds to begin the night’s scoring with Christian Gaudreau collecting his initial tally of the campaign.
Up a man later in the frame, French River made it 2-0 on a power play with Alex Paul etching his name to the club’s goal total at 9:02.
Powassan came right back however on the next shift and cut into the deficit as Tomas Yachmenev notching his initial marker in the NOJHL.
The Rapids then went back up by two nine minutes into the middle stanza off a Gregor Trudeau-Paquet effort.
Murray picked up his first of the night with 4:11 left in the frame during another man advantage opportunity to pull the home side to within one entering the third.
There Powassan struck twice with Eric Mondoux connecting shorthanded and Quintin Loon-Stewardson at even strength to go up 4-3.
French Rapids did force extra time with under four minutes remaining in regulation thanks to Levi Siau’s power play tally.
Carrying a man advantage into OT it was Murray was won it for the Voodoos with his second power play blast of the night to give his side the second point on the night.
Cameron Moore doled out three assists for Powassan in the win while Trudeau-Paquet had a couple of helpers for the Rapids.
Tyler Mastermak made his first start in net for the Voodoos and registered the victory facing 18 shots on the night.
Spencer Eschyshcyn helped his team earn a point in the setback saving 34 of 39 along the way.
