POWASSAN, Ont. – The Powassan Voodoos skated out to a four-goal lead midway through the first period and never looked back as they went on to defeat the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 7-2 Wednesday evening for their ninth consecutive Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League victory in a contest held at the Powassan Sportsplex.

Parker Bowman and Gregory Trudeau-Paquet both extended point streaks to nine apiece with early markers to put the Voodoos in flight.

The home side kept coming when Ty Nicholson, at even strength, and Sam Ellwood, via the power play, tallied to put them up by four with half of the first period yet to be played.

Kirkland Lake did get one back at 12:51 of the frame with Kyler Campbell setting up Max Newnam for his fourth of the campaign.

However, Powassan’s Bowman notched his second of the night and NOJHL-leading 13th goal of the season after that to make it 5-1 after 20 minutes.

Action in the second stanza saw the Gold Miners cut into the deficit at 3:10 on Cameron Neaylon’s fourth, but Seiji Martone and Tomas Yachmenev answered that as the Voodoos went up by five after two in an outing that saw no further markers.

With Ellwood and Yachmenev etching their names on the score sheet, they now have eight-game point streaks on the go while Ryan Mills, picking up two assists, now boasts has a six-game point run to his credit.

Chipping in to aid the offensive cause in the decision was veteran forward Cade Herd, who collected a trio of helpers.

Owen Say finished with 25 stops to record the win for league-leading Powassan as he improved to 8-0-0-0 in his first year with the club, who saw their overall record move to 11-1-0-0.

Kohl Reddy started in net for Kirkland Lake and suffered the loss allowing three against on seven shots while Kyle McNair handled 29 of 33 in nearly 51 minutes of relief.
