Blind River matches win total of last season with triumph over Thunderbirds

BLIND RIVER, Ont. – Anthony Pullicino tallied twice and goaltender Myles Hektor stopped 33 of the 34 shots he faced to help lift the Blind River Beavers to a 4-1 victory over the Soo Thunderbirds in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Thursday evening at the Blind River Community Centre.

With the decision the Beavers have matched their triumph total of the entire 2015-16 campaign at 10 and they also snapped the Thunderbirds winning streak at six in the process.

After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, Blind River got on the board 9:43 into the middle stanza as Mark Bastianello collected his fourth goal of the season.

The Beavers came right back and added another just 58 seconds later as Pullicino also picked up his fourth of the campaign.

Sault Ste. Marie got one back with 4:18 left in the session compliments of Austin Kozluk’s sixth overall.

Heading into the third, Pullicino added some insurance 89 seconds into the session before Yianni Liarakos iced it with 3:43 to go to round out the scoring.

Zak Lambrecht dished out two assists to aid the Blind River offensive cause.

With the win Blind River improved to 10-9-0-0 overall.

Brandon Gordon faced 26 attempts in defeat for the Soo who slipped to 14-6-0-0.
