KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – Riding the first Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout by Bronx Bodnar, the Blind River Beavers went on to blank the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 3-0 Friday in a meeting at Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.
A scoreless opening 20 minutes saw the opposing netminders in the Gold Miners’ Matis Bureau-Morel and the Beavers’ Bodnar hold firm to help keep it at 0-0.
In the middle frame, Blind River’s Owen King darted down the right wing and wired a shot high, short-side, over the glove of Bureau-Morel for a power play marker 50 seconds in, for what proved to be the eventual game-winner.
The tally also saw King extend a point streak to five in succession.
Still 1-0 Beavers into the third period, the visitors added some insurance off a shorthanded goal with eight minutes to play as Wyatt Gibson chipped a play out of his own zone and while driving down the right side ripped a shot from a sharp angle off the far post and in.
Wrapping up the road victory, Jonah McIndoo put one into an empty net late after the Gold Miners had got their goaltender out for an extra attacker.
Both teams play again Saturday as Kirkland Lake hosts the Soo Thunderbirds while Blind River travels to Powassan to meet the Voodoos in a pair of 7 p.m. starts.
