The Calgary Flames announced Monday that they have signed former Powassan Voodoos goaltender Owen Say to a one-year, two-way NHL contract, with an AAV of $872,500, beginning in the 2025-26 season.
Say, a native of London, Ont., backstopped the University of Notre Dame in 2024-25, posting a .920 save percentage and a 2.82 GAA along with a 10-15-0 record in 27 games played. Say’s .920 save percentage ranks third in the Big-10 while his 829 saves this season are the second-most, with only Flames prospect and Penn State netminder Arsenii Sergeev recording more.
Say was also invited to the Pittsburgh Penguins summer prospects camp in 2024.
Prior to this season, Say spent two years with Mercyhurst College, playing 44 games over his two seasons in the AHA. The 23-year-old played his junior with the BCHL’s Salmon Arm Silverbacks and the Voodoos.
During his lone season in the NOJHL, Say led the Voodoos to a 2019-20 regular season title that was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2019-20, Say finished with a .941 save percentage and a 1.90 goals-against average, while sporting a record of 31-2-0-0.
Voodoos’ general manager Chris Dawson believes the signing is great news for the franchise.
“Owen is a real success story coming out of the NOJHL,” said Dawson.
