Capper is heading to Kingston to play for Queen’s!

The Soo Thunderbirds have announced on Wednesday that forward Dharan Cap has committed to play for the Queen’s University Golden Gaels in Kingston, Ontario for the 2023-2024 season.

In 83 career games played with the Soo Thunderbirds from 2021-2023, Cap recorded 40 goals, 52 assists and 92 points.

“Capper has shown these past two seasons with his commitment on and off the ice that he was one of the NOJHL’s top players, and it’s a wonderful opportunity for him to play USports hockey at one of the country’s top institutions,” said Soo Thunderbirds assistant coach and general manager Jamie Henderson.

Cap, who just graduated from the T-Birds this past season, also led the T-Birds in scoring this past season with 30 goals and 68 points and was also named the NOJHL’s Top Defensive Forward.

During the 2023 playoffs, Cap also led all NOJHL players in goals with 10.

“I’m super excited to be joining the Queen’s University hockey team for next season,” Cap said. “It’s been a goal of mine to join them for three years now, and for it to finally happen for real just feels incredible.”

Starting this fall at Queen’s, the 20-year-old will also be studying Engineering.

“It’s a very special day for Dharan, his family and the T-Birds program,” Henderson said. “All of his T-Bird teammates were also really pumped to hear this news about his commitment.”

NOTE

Last season, the Queen’s University Golden Gaels were led in scoring by former Soo Greyhounds forward Hayden Fowler.

Fowler, who was a former 1st round draft pick of the Soo Greyhounds back in 2017, led the Golden Gaels in scoring last season with 22 points in 25 games.
