For the second straight Wednesday, a member of the Soo Thunderbirds has committed to play for the Sault College Cougars.

On Wednesday, May 24, it was announced that Soo Thunderbirds forward Michael Chaffay has committed to play for the Sault College Cougars hockey team for the 2023-2024 season.

Chaffay becomes the second member from the Soo Thunderbirds to commit to the Sault College Cougars during this offseason, following Ethan Novello, who committed to the Cougars back on Wednesday, May 17.

“We are happy to see Michael move on to play for the Cougars for next season,” said Soo Thunderbirds assistant coach and general manager Jamie Henderson. “Michael left a great footprint on this program and we are excited to see him join a great program at Sault College.”

In 124 career games played with the T-Birds from 2018-2023, Chaffay recorded 42 goals, 52 assists and 94 points.

“I’m really excited to play for the Cougars next season,” said Chaffay, who just graduated from the Soo Thunderbirds this past season. “Playing with the Cougars next season will be something new for me and I’m excited to have that experience. I also believe that we are going to have a good team along with a good coaching staff.”

Starting this fall, Chaffay will also be his second year at Sault College studying Sports Administration.
