Cochrane’s Gratton honourable mention for CJHL 3 Stars of the Month accolades

SUDBURY – The Canadian Junior Hockey League announced Monday Cochrane Crunch forward Cody Gratton earned honourable mention laurels for the CJHL 3 Stars of the Month awards for September.

In eight games last month the 20-year-old Sudbury product led all Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League skaters in both goals and points with nine and 17 respectively.

Gratton also had five multi-point outings helping the first-year Crunch, who are currently ranked sixth in the entire 129-team CJHL, post a 6-2 record.

Cochrane also went 5-0 in contests he notched at least one goal in a period that also saw him named the initial  NOJHL’s Gongshow Gear Inc. player of the month for 2014-15.

The Crunch are currently 8-2 overall with Gratton leading the league in scoring with 21 points.

The CJHL 3 Stars for the month for September went to Marc-Anthony Therrien (Princeville Titan, QJHL), Devin McDonald (Camrose Kodiak, AJHL) and Tyler Feaver (Whitby Fury, OJHL).

CJHL 1st STAR – MARC-ANTHONY THERRIEN, F, PRINCEVILLE TITAN, QJHL
(8 GP, 11 G, 11 A, 22 PTS)

Therrien was selected the QJHL offensive Player of the Month for September with the 20-year-old centre registering 11 goals and 11 assists for 22 points in eight games, including a hat trick, five powerplay tallies, three game-winners, and five multiple-point outings.

Overall this season Therrien leads the league in scoring with 26 points, including 13 markers in nine games.

2nd STAR – DEVIN MCDONALD, G, CAMROSE KODIAKS, AJHL
(8 GP, 7 W, 1 L, 1.50 GAA, .947 SV%)

McDonald was the Alberta Dodge Dealers AJHL Player of the Month for the opening month of the 2014-15.  

The Calgary, Alta., product has started the season with a 7-1-0 record while posting two shutout victories.  

McDonald leads the AJHL in wins (7) and shutouts (2) and is amongst the top three in goals-against average (1.50 GAA) and save percentage (.947%).  

3rd STAR – TYLER FEAVER, G, WHITBY FURY, OJHL
(6 GP, 6 W, 0 L, 1.56 GAA, .938 SV%)       

Feaver a four-year veteran backstop got off to the best start of his young career going unbeaten in six starts for Whitby while allowing just nine goals to lead the OJHL in wins.

Already more than a third of the way past his triumph total from last season, Feaver ranked third in the OJHL in both average (1.56) and save mark (.938).

Of note, all six of his Feaver’s victories came during an extended road trip to kick-off the season.
