Cordeiro shines as Cochrane tops Iroquois Falls

IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – Dustin Cordeiro had his seventh multiple-goal game of the season Sunday as he scored four times to help pace the Cochrane Crunch to an 8-2 triumph over the Iroquois Falls Eskis Sunday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at Jus Jordan Arena.

John Stevenson got Cochrane going with a power play marker 2:34 into the game as he notched his 20th of season.

Iroquois Falls tied it at 15:07 of the frame when David Osborne picked up his team-leading 20th tally of the campaign.

Cordeiro however countered that two minutes later as the Crunch took a 2-1 lead into the second period.

It was more Cordeiro in the middle session as he picked up his second of the game midway through the frame then capped off a natural hat trick at 12:39.

Hunter Atchsion added to the Cochrane cushion late in the stanza as he struck shorthanded at 18:40 for his NOJHL-best 33rd goal of 2015-16.

Cordeiro bagged his fourth of the day and 30th overall a half minute into the third to make it 6-1 before Taylor Armbruster and Jon Marzec supplied man advantage markers to extend the Crunch lead to seven.

Josh Dejulio added one for the Eskis, on the power play, with 2:07 to go to round out the scoring with his first for Iroquois Falls.

Atchison also dished out four assists in the contest as he raised his league-best point total to 70.

Marzec, Joseph Thielen, Jeran Knorr and Lucas Robinson chipped in with two helpers apiece in the win.

Shots on goal favoured the Crunch by a 56-48 margin with Brett Young making 46 saves to pick up the victory.

Josh Horner started in goal for the Eskis and suffered the loss allowing seven against on 46 attempts while affiliate Jaedon Giguere turned aside nine of 10 in 16:41 of third period relief.
