Powassan gets past Blind River in OT

BLIND RIVER, Ont. – A Tyler Gervais-Rolfe deflection goal with 41 seconds remaining in the first overtime gave the Powassan Voodoos a hard-fought 4-3 victory over the Blind River Beavers in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League matinee Sunday afternoon at the Blind River Community Centre.

Blind River supplied the lone tally of the first period when Max Khull tucked in his 11th of the season just past the 15-minute mark.

Powassan countered with the equalizer 5:53 into the second a when Michael Silveri collected his 13th of the campaign.

The Voodoos then took the lead at 14:32 with Aaron Dart putting the visitors in front.

Two minutes later the Beavers battled back to tie it at 2-2 thanks to Joseph Eben’s eighth, but Powassan went back in front with 73 seconds remaining in the stanza as Kyle Moore collected his first of the year.

Blind River matched that to level the proceedings once more as Ted Davis notched his eighth of 2015-16 early in the third and force OT.

Then with the first overtime winding down Gervais-Rolfe calmly redirected a left point shot from Eric Allair past Beavers netminder Matt Blattenberger for the game-winner to give the Voodoos the second point in the contest.

Mario Cavaliere made 36 saves to pick up the win for Powassan while Blattenberger faced 52 shots in the OT defeat helping his side pick-up a point.
