ESPANOLA, ON – The Greater Sudbury Cubs held off the Espanola Paper Kings for a 5-4 road victory for the Cubs at the Espanola Regional Recreational Complex on Sunday afternoon.
Two of the top offensive clubs in the league scored four times in a two-minute span of the second period.
Ben Harris led the Cubs offence with 1 goal and 1 assist, while the Paper Kings Spencer Horgan finished with 2 goals and 1 assist.
Early in the first, it was Ben Lacroix who notched his 15th with an assist from Harris at 3:44 for a 1-0 Cubs lead.
The Paper Kings got the equalizer less than a minute later when Horgan scored his 24th on a power play at 4:30.
Ethan Larmand put the Cubs back up by one as he scored his 7th at 11:46 which made it 2-1 Cubs after one period.
In the middle frame, Horgan supplied his second of the game to even the score at 2-2 on a Paper Kings power play opportunity at 5:55.
The Cubs Noah Kohan put the Cubs up 3-2 at 13:01.
The Paper Kings responded again though, when Owen Fergusson put home his 33rd of the campaign to even things at 3-3 less than a minute later at 13:55.
The flurry of offence continued, as less than a minute later Hudson Martin scored his 7th at 14:41 to give the Cubs the 4-3 lead.
Just over 30 seconds after the Martin goal, Ben Harris netted his 9th at 15:05 which made it 5-3 at 15:05.
After the high-scoring second, Jack Lynes got his 16th at 12:50 of the third to make it 5-4.
Cubs goaltender Noah Beaulne was able to fend off the Paper Kings the rest of the way as he made 30 saves in the Sudbury road win.
With the win, the Cubs improve to 38-11-1-2 while the Paper Kings fall to 31-19-1.
