ESPANOLA, Ont. – The visiting Timmins Rock saw Josh Dickson and Owen Shier tally twice as part of a 7-1 victory over the Espanola Express Sunday afternoon in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at the Regional Recreation Complex.
The decision moves the Rock into top spot in the overall NOJHL standings, one point clear of the idle Powassan Voodoos, who do however hold two games in hand on Timmins.
Sunday’s contest did see Espanola score first as Zachary Matyasik connected on the power play three minutes in as he picked up his 15th goal while extending a consecutive game point streak to five in the process.
Shier got that back for the guests at 7:24 as the two teams his the intermission knotted at one.
Action in the middle stanza went the way of the Rock as they potted three unanswered markers to take a 4-1 edge after a couple of periods of play.
Phil Caron began the outburst at 2:29 as his 17th proved to be the game-winner before Karter Renouf and Shier added later goals in the session.
Timmins then put the game away in the third as Dickson notched his pair of markers to reach the 50-point plateau on the year before Zach Smith rounded out the day’s scoring.
Renouf and Derek Seguin chipped in with two assists apiece to aid the Rock cause.
Shots on goal finished 39-30 in favour of the Rock with Tyler Masternak getting the win while Carson Boutin suffered the defeat.
