FRENCH RIVER – Nick Techel tallied twice, including the game-winner, and set-up two others to help lead the Soo Eagles to a 5-1 road decision over the French River Rapids in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest Sunday at Noelville Arena.
The first power play of the match-up allowed Sault Ste. Marie to get on the board first with Christian Bardarson opening the scoring eight minutes in.
French River used a man advantage of their own to draw level, 14:11 into the middle stanza with Christian Gaudreau collecting his eighth on the campaign.
However, Techel struck twice late in the second period as he notched his 11th and 12th goals overall to put the visitors up 3-1 after two.
Bardarson finished off his own four-point game 11 and a half minutes into the third by finishing off the work of Techel and Kobe Keller.
The Eagles then wrapped thing up offensively with Jacob Palmerio’s 11th at 18:05 to conclude the scoring.
Keller joined Techel and Bardarson with two assists in the win.
Shots on goal favoured the Soo by a 39-28 count as Carter McPhail picked up the victory while Spencer Eschyshcyn suffered the loss.
