SAULT STE. MARIE, MI – The Soo Eagles scored three times in the first and three more in the second as they defeated the visiting Elliot Lake Vikings 6-1 at the historic Pullar Stadium on Friday night.
Benjamin Pouliot led the Eagles offence with 1 goal and 2 assists while Tyler Fortson contributed 1 goal and 1 assist in the home win.
The Eagles opened the scoring 6:31 in, when Gabriel Fisher netted his 5th of the campaign on an early power play with a helper from Benjamin Pouliot.
The Eagles added to the lead as Tyler Fortson scored his 12th just over 2 minutes later for the 2-0 lead beating Vikings starter Braydon Garnhart.
The Eagles were able to increase their lead in the dying seconds of the first, as Coby Fox scored his 5th of the season with 17 seconds left in the frame.
The Eagles continued to fly high in this one as Drew Dellies scored his fourth of the season just under 3 minutes into the second for the 4-0 lead on a nice transition goal.
Jack Paweski increased the Eagles lead with a power play marker at 5:58 of the second period.
Less than 3 minutes later Benjamin Pouliot recorded his 18th of the season on a shorthanded effort to increase the Eagles lead to 6-0.
The Vikings Gavin McLenaghan broke the Anthony Zolezzi shutout bid at 13:44 of the third.
The win improves the Soo Eagles record to 22-15-1-1 while the Vikings record falls to 5-26-1-4 on the season.
