Elliot Lake earns road win at Kirkland Lake
KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – Austin Brunet’s goal midway through the second period proved to be the game-winner as the Elliot Lake Wildcats earned a 3-2 road victory over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners Friday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.
It took the visiting Wildcats just 25 seconds to open the scoring as Shane Woolsey collected his third tally of the campaign.
Kirkland Lake levelled the proceedings seven minutes later with Ashton Amaya notching his fourth of the season to tie it after one.
Shorthanded, the Wildcats regained the lead as Carson Andreoli picked up his first NOJHL marker at 6:37 of the middle stanza.
Just over four minutes after that, Brunet, a Wildcats affiliate player, supplied the eventual difference maker with his first in league play, which spelled the end of Victor-Olivier Courchesne’s night in net in favour of back-up Jeff Veitch.
It stayed that way until just before the final buzzer sounded in the third as the Gold Miners wrapped up the night’s scoring with a second to go when Amaya picked up another during a late man advantage opportunity.
Justin Richer made 25 saves to register the win for Elliot Lake.
Courchesne suffered the loss for Kirkland Lake allowing the three against on 12 shots while Veitch handled all 11 attempts he saw in nearly 30 minutes of relief.
