Iroquois Falls rallies for OT win in Kirkland Lake

KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – After tying it late in regulation, the Iroquois Falls Storm saw Ben Sherwin score on a man advantage, 1:48 into overtime, to pull out a 2-1 come from behind triumph over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest at Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

Some nice puck movement on a late first period power play saw Kirkland Lake strike first as Kai Clayton zipped a pass in front that was smartly steered in by Jordan Fitger, on Iroquois Falls goalkeeper Justin Sullivan.

The spirited affair went without a goal in the second stanza as the clubs went to their respective dressing rooms with the count remaining 1-0 Gold Miners.

In the third, Andre Cho tied it with under three minutes to go in the stanza as he snagged a rebound off a Tibor Nemeth point shot then patiently waited before moving to his left and lifting the equalizer by the outstretched pad of Kirkland Lake goaltender Kael Moberg.

Moving to OT, the Storm completed the comeback while up a skater when Sherwin redirected a Cho chance from between the circles for the game-winner.

The win sees Iroquois Falls move to 3-1-0-0 on the season while Kirkland Lake get their first point on the year while falling to 0-2-0-1.
