TIMMINS, Ont. – An Evan Kentish-Stack goal 3:24 into double overtime was the difference as the Timmins Rock got past the French River Rapids 2-1 in a hard-fought Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up Thursday evening at McIntyre Arena.
French River picked up the lone marker of the first period when Alex Paul scored on the power play at 16:33 with assists going to Levi Siau and Stephen Callisti.
The helper allowed Siau to give him at least one point in each of the past eight NOJHL games he has participated in.
Timmins would tie things up with the lone marker of the middle stanza that was compliments of Jace Soroko’s fourth of the campaign.
The low-scoring affair would remain goalless the rest of the that period along with the third and the initial five-minute OT session.
However skating three players aside in the second extra frame, it was Kentish-Stack who was the hero for the home side as his fourth of the year ended it.
Timmins netminder Tyler Masternak made 30 stops to pick-up the win while Rapids’ goaltender Andrew Rocha’s solid 47-save night helped French River secure a point in the standings.
The result sees the Rock improve to 11-18-1-2 on the campaign while French River goes to 9-18-4-0.
