WASAGA BEACH, Ont. – Riding the shutout goaltending of Leon Willerscheid and a two-goal effort from Awrelij Fomenko saw the Jungadler Mannheim Eagles top the Powassan Voodoos 3-0 Wednesday in Day 2 play at the Cottage Cup Showcase at Wasaga Stars Arena.

Mannheim opened the scoring 2:47 in as Fomenko fired a shot from the right side that got through Powassan netminder Miles Gordon.

The German under-20 side added another nine minutes later after picking off a clearing attempt and setting up Fomenko in the slot, where he spun and buried his chance.

Tacking on another in the late going of the opening period, Dustin Willhoft redirected a point shot high over the shoulder of Gordon.

A tight final frame saw no more markers provided as Mannheim held firm to secure the victory.

Powassan finishes round robin play at 0-3 and will now meet the Collingwood Blues (OJHL) Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. in quarter-final play.
