NOJHL announces Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced today that forwards Cody Gratton and Josh Racek of the Cochrane Crunch along with Luc Soares of the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners have been named the Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the week for the period ending Dec. 21.

CODY GRATTON, (F) COCHRANE CRUNCH – The NOJHL’s leading point producer earned his fourth individual nod as one of the Eastlink TV three stars by adding nine more to his season totals as the Crunch took both ends of a home-and-home vs. Abitibi last week.

The 20-year-old Sudbury product started by doling out four assists in a road victory against the Eskimos Dec. 16 and followed that up three nights later with a pair of goals and three helpers at home.

Gratton enters the holiday break in the NOJHL leading the way in points (64), goals (36), shorthanded markers (10) and game-winners (6).

LUC SOARES, (F) KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS – Soares was also shining last week as the 18-year-old from Delta, B.C. registered eight points helping Kirkland Lake skate to a pair of impressive victories.

He began by dishing out a pair of assists in a 9-2 triumph over Powassan Friday then tallied twice and set-up four others in an 8-3 decision over Abitibi Saturday.

Soares had nine multi-point games to his credit so far this season as he sits third in scoring for the Gold Miners with 37, including 19 goals, in 28 games.

JOSH RACEK, (F) – COCHRANE CRUNCH – Racek impressed for the Crunch last week notching his first two NOJHL hat tricks in the two triumphs over Abitibi.

The 20-year-old, who is a native of Colorado Springs, Colo., registered his back-to-back three-goal games against the Eskimos, which included the game-winner in the finale. Racek also added an assist in that contest as well.

On the season he sits tied for seventh in league offensive production with 44 points with 16 tallies and 28 helpers.
