NOJHL announces Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY – Helping lead their respective clubs to unbeaten 2-0 records last week the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that forwards Steven Babin (Kirkland Lake Gold Miners), Matt Neault (Sudbury Nickel Barons) and Steve Harland (Powassan Voodoos) have been named the Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the week for the period ending Nov. 9.

STEVEN BABIN, (F) KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS – An offensive force all season, the 20-year-old Babin continued his solid play helping the Gold Miners win both their contests last week and run the club’s consecutive game winning streak to nine.

Saturday evening the Val-d’Or, Que., product doled out a pair of assists in a 5-2 victory over the Elliot Lake Wildcats.

He followed that up by scoring the game-winner and setting up two others in a 4-3 OT triumph over the Soo Thunderbirds Sunday afternoon.

Babin is currently riding a nine-game point streak and leads the NOJHL in both points (39) and assists (28).

MATT NEAULT, (F) SUDBURY NICKEL BARONS – The 17-year-old from Lively, Ont., registered five points in two outings last week as the Nickel Barons skated away with a pair of important victories.

Neault began by recording two assists, including setting up the winner in double overtime Wednesday, as Sudbury stormed back from a three-goal, third period deficit, to defeat the Soo Thunderbirds 6-5 and put an end to their 12-game winning streak.

Saturday night he went on to score twice, including the winner, and added a helper in a 5-1 road triumph at Blind River.

Neault is presently tied for second in the NOJHL in game-winning goals with three.

STEVE HARLAND, (F) POWASSAN VOODOOS – Continuing his solid play for the first-year Voodoos, Powassan rookie Harland amassed five points helping his club sweep a weekend home-and-home with Mattawa.

The 18-year-old forward from Scarborough, Ont., started his week by tallying twice and supplying an assist Friday and capped off his efforts with a shorthanded marker and a helper Saturday in a pair of one-sided decisions.

Harland has scored goals in five of his past six games as well as in eight of his previous 10.

He also leads the Voodoos in scoring with 23 points in 18 games and is ninth in the league in goals with 13.
