SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League has announced that tonight’s (February 22) originally scheduled contest between the Blind River Beavers and the Elliot Lake Wildcats at Centennial Arena has been postponed.
The cause of the postponement comes after town officials closed numerous recreational facilities in the community due to excessive snow and ice on the roofs.
This comes in conjunction with a partial roof collapse at the Lester B. Pearson Civic Centre in Elliot Lake that was caused due to the snow and ice load on the building’s roof.
No injuries have been reported in that incident.
As a precaution, Centennial Arena has been closed until engineers and town officials can properly inspect the facility for any potential risk to the public.
A make up date for this game will be announced once finalized.
