SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that the forward trio of Oliver Smith (Greater Sudbury Cubs); Zachary Demers (Hearst Lumberjacks) and Matthew Green (Blind River Beavers) have been named its final Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week, for the regular season.
OLIVER SMITH, (F) GREATER SUDBURY CUBS – Smith’s contributions provided six points for the Cubs in a pair of victories over fellow playoff-bound clubs, Espanola and Powassan.
Featured was a personal single-game best five points against the Paper Kings, including a hat trick and helping set-up the deciding tally.
In his final year of Jr. A hockey, the Lively, Ont., product scored six times in his final three outings and wrapped up the regular season with points in six straight as part of a career-high 69 points in 55 contests with Greater Sudbury.
ZACHARY DEMERS, (F) HEARST LUMBERJACKS – The veteran forward from St-Hubert, Que., wrapped up his campaign with points in 13 straight games, including seven last week, highlighted by assists on both of the Lumberjacks’ game-winning goals.
Finishing fourth in NOJHL scoring, Demers scored 20 times and dished out 63 helpers.
Heading into the playoffs, the play-making centre provided 22 multi-point performances on the season, including 11 of which were three points, or more.
MATTHEW GREEN, (F) BLIND RIVER BEAVERS – Green’s efforts on the ice, helped Blind River collect five of a possible six points in a snow-filled weekend road trip.
In all the 18-year-old first-year NOJHLer dished out a half dozen assists to aid the Beavers’ offensive cause.
Hailing from Blue Mountain, Ont., Green provided 50 points for his squad, which placed him fourth in league rookie scoring for 2022-23.
