COCHRANE, Ont. – The Powassan Voodoos saw goaltender Owen Say make 33 saves on the night to record his Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League-leading 30th win of the season, a 3-1 decision over the Cochrane Crunch, Saturday night at Tim Horton Events Centre.
Collecting the lone tally of the opening 20 minutes was Powassan’s Ryan Mills as he notched his 18th of the season at 6:46 as he scored for a fifth straight outing.
Second period play saw Mike Iatridis notch his first NOJHL goal at 16:41 to even things up for the Crunch.
However, the Voodoos came right back moments later when Joe Whittet picked up his 20th of campaign to put the guests back in front after two periods of play.
In the third they got some insurance from rookie defenceman Finn Acton-Rinaldo as he secured his first league goal at 2:46 in what proved to be the evening’s final tally.
Brett Shawana chipped in with two assists in the road triumph.
Say did the rest in reaching the 30-win plateau for Powassan who are closing in on the NOJHL’s regular season title.
Zach Wickson faced 42 shots in defeat for Cochrane.
