TIMMINS, Ont. – Soaring back from a four-goal, third-period deficit, the Elliot Lake Red Wings went on to stun the Timmins Rock 6-5 in a shootout in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Saturday at McIntyre Arena.

A special moment came for Yenry Jibb of the Rock 17 minutes into the match-up as he collected his first NOJHL goal by snapping a shot past Elliot Lake netminder Cameron Smith from between the hash marks.

Moving to the second stanza, Timmins tacked on another at 2:40 as Nicolas Pigeon made a nice move around a Red Wings player and sent a pass across that left teammate Nicholas Frederick with a tap in.

It was more from the Rock a couple of minutes later as they converted while their club was down a skater when Hayden Rynard forced a turnover deep in the Elliot Lake zone and sent it in front to a waiting Frederick who wasted little time in burying it from close range.

Some sustained pressure by Timmins late in the frame saw them add a fourth on the night when Jibb jammed in another one with help from a chip-pass from behind the net by Lucas Lowe who registered his initial NOJHL point at 18:42.

Red Wings’ back-up Sean Guerin entered to play net for his side to begin the third.

There, despite being down four, Elliot Lake roared to life beginning with a Zachary Vickerman effort at 5:05 as he dangled around a defender then whipped one upstairs on Rock netminder Jacob Brown from the left wing.

The guests then came right back and added another on the next shift when Calum McGill used a similar move as Vickerman and ripped one into the top-left corner while on the right side.

Lucas Piekarczyk did put Timmins back in front by three at 8:42 as he knocked in a feed in front by Nolan Ring.

However, the Red Wings came right back off the draw to answer that when Silas Crawford spun in the slot and secured his third of the season.

Now done there, Vickerman made 5-4 less than a minute later as he neatly redirected a Cameron Dial chance from the left point.

Still clicking offensively, Elliot Lake drew level with 8:11 remaining thanks to Tomas Palandra as benefitted from Devin Shoreman winning the puck against a trio of Rock skaters and sent it in front where it was fired in from close range to help send it to overtime.

After the five-minute OT failed to provide a result, the teams went to extra shots to finalize the matter.

There, Alex Antoine with a splendid fake and deke marker, followed by Kaden Laverdiere snapping one high, glove side, accounted both goals in the shootout to wrap-up the impressive come from behind triumph for the Red Wings.

Geurin stopped both attempts to saw to pick-up the win in 25 minutes of relief, while Brown suffered the defeat.
