TIMMINS, Ont. – Getting a two-goal performance from their captain, Tyler Schwindt, the Timmins Rock went on to defeat the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 5-2 Sunday afternoon in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at McIntyre Arena.

Striking first, Timmins used some solid cycle work in the corner, which eventually led to Dylan McElhinny wiring a shot top shelf from the left circle after taking a nice pass across from the right point by Cameron Dutkiewicz.

Countering with a shorthanded effort midway through the opening frame, Kirkland Lake broke in a two-on-one with Chance DeBolt setting up Eric de Repentigny who blasted a shot through Rock netminder Konrad Simard.

Regrouping late in the period, Timmins tacked on a pair of tallies to take a 3-1 lead to the intermission.

Some creative puck movement left Schwindt with a tap-in from the left of the crease at 18:38 while Nicolas Pigeon potted one 18 seconds later following some strong play along the boards by Henry Brock who set him up in the slot where he whipped in his fourth of the campaign.

Getting a man-down marker of their own in the second stanza, the Rock’s Bode Dunford sent a long feed up to Liam Wells who got to the puck and sent it over to Christopher Engelbert where he moved to the side and outwaited a spinning Lyons before lifting it over him into the back of the net.

Early in the third, de Repentigny created a turnover deep in Rock territory and helped Luca Maiuri rip one into the top corner from the left of Simard.

However, Schwindt came right back to make it 5-2 as he was allowed to walk out from behind the net and patiently snap in his team-leading 15th goal of the season to cap off the home ice triumph.

Pigeon chipped in with a pair of assists for a three-point game with Brock and Wells also having two helpers apiece.

Shots on net ended up 38-19 Timmins with Simard getting the win while Lyons suffered the defeat.
