Thunderbirds improve to 3-0 with win vs. Blind River
SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. – The Soo Thunderbirds got goals from six different skaters to power them past the Blind River Beavers 6-1 Wednesday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Essar Centre.
The visiting Beavers were quick to get on the board in this one as Max Khull beat Sault Ste. Marie starter Nathan Warren just 35 seconds into the contest in what was the lone tally of the period.
It was a different story in the middle stanza for the Thunderbirds as they responded by tacking on four markers to take control of the contest.
Matthew Busby tied it at 3:34 of the frame while Jaren Bellini notched the eventual game-winner five minutes later.
The T-Birds then added two more in the latter stages of the second when Drake Pilon scored his first NOJHL goal at 17:24 followed by a Matthew Murray effort at 19:04.
Special teams saw the Thunderbirds add to their cushion 27 seconds into the third as Matt Pinder picked up one on the power play.
Zach Senecal then rounded out things offensively with 8:17 remaining.
Brad Thrower dished out two assists for the Soo in the victory.
Warren stopped 13 of 14 shots he faced in relief in earning the win for the Thunderbirds while Maxwell Barr finished with 39 stops in defeat for Blind River.
