2 for Lopez again as Wildcats ice Eagles
ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – The Elliot Lake Wildcats got a pair of goals from Chad Lopez for a third straight outing to help lead them to a 5-1 victory over the Soo Eagles in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League matinee Sunday afternoon at Centennial Arena.
The visiting Eagles took a 1-0 lead 15 and a half minutes into the contest as Reed Gregory collected his 17th marker of the campaign.
Cole Hepler’s team-leading 38th tied it for the Wildcats at 17:11 before teammate Connor Rider put the home side up for good 91 seconds later.
After a scoreless middle stanza, Elliot Lake got quick strikes less than a minute apart in the third from Lopez and Spencer MacLean to make it 4-1.
Lopez then wrapped things up offensively at 16:12 with his second of the day and 22nd overall during a man advantage opportunity.
Rider, MacLean and Liam Blais had two assists each to boost the Wildcats cause.
Aaron Mackay was called up to make 31 saves to register the win for Elliot Lake.
Jack Deines saw 52 shots fired his way in defeat for the Eagles.
