Beavers edge Eagles 2-1 in Blind River

BLIND RIVER, Ont. – The Blind River Beavers got a pair of second period goals along with 39 saves from netminder Aidan Doak in a narrow 2-1 decision over the visiting Soo Eagles Saturday night in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at the Blind River Community Centre.

It was scoreless after one period of play with Eagles goaltender Kade Phipps making 10 stops and Doak nine.

Blind River did get one 5:10 into the middle stanza as Mark Bastianello notched his 14th marker of the campaign.

The then got the eventual difference maker with less than two minutes left in the stanza when Steven Khull collected his sixth overall.

Sault Ste. Marie got one early in the third as Jake Saxton connected on the power play 53 seconds in, but that would prove to be the final goal of the game.

Along with Doak’s 39 saves, Phipps finished with 28 stops in defeat for the Eagles.
