SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s
Soo Eagles have announced that goaltender Anthony Zolezzi has committed
to attend NCAA Division III Oswego State University in the fall and
compete with the Lakers men’s hockey program.
The 19-year-old from Naperville, Illinois, appeared in 37 games with the
Eagles over the course of the 2023-24 NOJHL campaign, where he finished
third among all netminders in minutes played with 2,033. That was just
60 off the league lead.
With 18 wins to his credit, Zolezzi tied for ninth in that department
and had a dozen outings where he made 30, or more, stops and saw action
in four match-ups where he faced 40-plus attempts fired his way.
“Our goaltender consultant, Stu Gould, an alumnus of Oswego State, and
was instrumental in helping Anthony secure his commitment to the Laker’s
men’s hockey program under coach Ed Gosek,” said Eagles general manager
Bruno Bragagnolo.
“Anthony is one of the most dedicated goalkeepers we’ve ever had with
our organization, and we look forward to following his NCAA hockey
career,” added the Soo GM.
Zolezzi becomes the seventh Eagles player from this season to have
committed to a collegiate hockey program.
Based in Oswego, N.Y., the Oswego State Lakers are members of the
nine-school State University of New York Athletic Conference.
