Hearst uses home ice to tame Timmins

HEARST, Ont. – A well-balanced attack saw the Hearst Lumberjacks get goals from five different skaters as they went on to skate past the Timmins Rock 5-2 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League East Division encounter Friday in front of 749 fans at Claude Larose Arena.

Timmins kicked off the scoring 7:14 into the match-up as Rock captain Derek Seguin buried his 17th goal of the year to put the guests in front.

Answering back though, Hearst tallied twice in a 40-second span to tie it, then go in front, as David Gobeil and Jake Desando connected in rapid succession to put the hosts up 2-1.

Down a man midway through the second stanza, Dominic Dumas struck shorthanded in what proved to be the eventual game-winner.

Josh Dickson got one back for the visitors at 13:01 during a power play, but George Young answered that for the Lumberjacks a couple of shifts later at even strength.

In the third, Mathew Eardley added some insurance midway through the frame by clicking on the power play for Hearst to round out the scoring.

The spread-out Lumberjacks offense saw 11 players pick up points in the win.

Shots on goal favoured Timmins by a 30-29 margin with Liam Oxner picking up the win while Tyler Masternak suffered the loss.
